Some single moms think that they can’t afford college, but that may be because they haven’t tried hard enough to mine all the sources of cash. They probably haven’t spent time on the many student aid websites. If they did, they would certainly have a much more optimistic view. That’s because they can count on at least some federal grant money, since they would be considered financially needy. They are likely to qualify for the federal Pell grant, at a minimum. Furthermore, there is an almost endless array of scholarships given out by governments, universities, professional associations, private foundations, large corporations, and other organizations. Whew! And if they looked on the Internet they would see all the scholarships for single moms, scholarships for nursing students, scholarships for engineering students, to name just a tiny sample of the opportunities out there. Whatever career track single moms want to pursue, there are many scholarships they can apply for.
